Harold J. Barthold II, MD, Joins
Commonwealth Atrius Cancer Center as Radiation Oncologist

Weymouth, Mass. — Harold J. Barthold II, MD, has joined the growing staff at Commonwealth Atrius Cancer Center in Weymouth, Mass., as a board-certified radiation oncologist.  He joins Claire Fung, M.D., Director of Radiation Oncology, and Diana Stripp, M.D. at Commonwealth Atrius, the area’s first free-standing cancer center providing comprehensive cancer care in one location.

Dr. Barthold, who also practices at Commonwealth Hematology-Oncology, has hospital appointments at South Shore Hospital in South Weymouth, Quincy Medical Center, Jordan Hospital in Plymouth, and Caritas Carney Hospital in Dorchester.

Dr. Barthold was Medical Director of South Suburban Oncology Center in Quincy.  Before that, he was the Chief of Radiation Oncology and Director of the Louis Busch Hager Cancer Center at Bassett Healthcare in Cooperstown, NY, and practiced Radiation Oncology in the U.S. Navy at the Portsmouth Naval Hospital in Portsmouth, VA.

His teaching appointments include: Instructor of Radiation Oncology at Harvard Medical School in Cambridge; Assistant Clinical Professor of Radiation Oncology at the College of Physicians and Surgeons, Columbia University; Assistant Clinical Professor at SUNY Medical Center College of Health-Related Professions in Syracuse, NY; Assistant Professor at Eastern Virginia Medical School Department of Radiation Oncology and Biophysics in Norfolk, VA; and Senior Instructor at Hahnemann University Department of Radiation Oncology in Philadelphia, PA.

Dr. Barthold received his MD from Hahnemann Medical College and his BS in Zoology from University of Massachusetts at Amherst, magna cum laude.  He was an American Cancer Society Radiation Oncology Clinical Fellow, with honors, at Hahnemann University; Resident in Radiation Oncology at Hahnemann University; and Intern in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Portsmouth Naval Regional Medical Center in Portsmouth, VA.

Dr. Barthold earned the Leadership in Prostate Cancer Award from the American Cancer Society, NY State Division.  He has been published in numerous reports, reviews, and abstract; he has also conducted numerous presentations and lectures for societies, institutes, and hospitals.  He is a member of the American Society of Therapeutic Radiology and Oncology, American College of Radiology, American Society of Clinical Oncology, Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group, American College of Radiation Oncology, Massachusetts Medical Society, and Massachusetts Society of Clinical Oncology.
